Joy the Baker’s Bourbon Pear Crumble Pie

My wife and I are big fans of Joy Wilson, aka Joy the Baker. We stumbled upon her blog way back in the day and own two of her cookbooks. We have consumed many a calorie thanks to Joy’s celebration of butter.

Not only are Joy’s recipes absolutely fantastic, but she is a relatable writer, as well. Her stories that accompany her recipes are typically humorous and something most anyone who cooks can identify with.

Note: Joy’s Instagram Stories are generally great, too.

I recently came upon a pie recipe I had somehow missed before: Bourbon Pear Crumble Pie.

Sign. Me. Up.

Honestly, what better timing for such a pie with Thanksgiving next week? I have a feeling it will make a lovely complement next to the standard pumpkin pie fare.

And, if you happen to use my favorite recipe app, Paprika, click the button below to automatically add this pie to your collection.

The Exclusive Dolby Cinema Poster for ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’

Just look at that. Wow. The style of the poster is amazing, and absolutely brings to mind Ralph McQuarrie’s artwork for the original trilogy. I’d love to get my hands on a copy of this poster for my home theater.

¶ The Solo Stove Bonfire

For my birthday this past summer my parents gifted me a Solo Stove Bonfire to serve as a fire pit for our backyard. It's a really nice sized pit that works well for our concrete patio space out back. I've gotten a lot of use out of it, including a crisp fall evening like tonight.

One of the advantages about the Solo Stove is it is portable. The next day, after the embers are all cooled off, I can empty it out and store it in my garage. Even though it is stainless steel, I don't want to risk it getting sitting water in it and rusting.

By far my favorite thing about it is when you get the fire roaring. When it does that, there are these vents around the circumference of the top that push more air in and the effect is really cool. See the photos below to see what I mean.

And while the party trick with the vents is my favorite thing about the Solo Stove itself, my most favorite thing about having a backyard fire pit is the time spent and stories shared with family and friends.

If you have a quaint space that needs a fire pit that can literally go anywhere, you should look at a Solo Stove. I can't recommend it enough.

It should go without saying on this site that this post is not an ad. I'm just a happy customer.

Looping a Song Through Facebook Live

I saw this video by The Academic performing their song Bear Claws the other day and have been fascinated by it. I can't imagine coming up with the timing to put together a song through a loop caused by a delay in Facebook's livestream.

I'd never heard of this band before, but the catchiness of this song has my attention.

Misunderstood

We've all been there. The awkward teenager who wants to be left alone at family events. Head buried in whatever our passion is. Family thinks — may even say — "I wish they would just interact with the rest of us."

I've been there. I'm pretty certain you were, too. What we both may have missed out on is secretly doing something amazing in our solitude for the good of others.

It's an ad, but its the best kind of ad. It tells a story that warms your heart and wets your eyes. Time and again Apple seems to be able to use their technology to touch our lives, and truly give us delight.
